Members will be saddened to hear that Des Murray died at New Year. He was an enthusiastic member of the club for several years and will be remembered for his umbrella and for his encyclopaedic knowledge of walks far and near.
There will be a funeral at Stonefall Crematorium on Wednesday 11th at 1.40pm.
Des shared so many miles and footpaths with us. The memories of these shared days are most treasured. May the path below his feet now always be firm and the days sunny. Des is already missed. He always knew the way.
All of our thoughts go out to the family and Cynthia a great friend of Des who he had great affection for.
Message from Cynthia:- "I would like to thank all the club members who managed to attend the funeral service. I hadn't expected so many and I know others would have been there if they had been able. It was a great comfort to me as were the many cards and emails that I received. I think Des would have been humbled to have known so many wanted to be there."

To celebrate the club’s 70th birthday in 2012 we have booked Berwick Youth Hostel for 3 nights from Friday May 4th. This is a brand new 4* hostel in a converted watermill by the riverside in Berwick town centre. It boasts an Art Gallery, cafe/bistro and all rooms are en-suite. On the quayside by the river Tweed, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is within a stone’s throw of the dramatic Northumberland coastline. We have secure the whole hostel for the sole use of Fell and Dale for this bank holiday weekend.
We are planning walks at different levels but for those interested in doing their own thing, there are a variety of tourist attractions in the town including a stroll along the Elizabethan town walls or following the Lowry trail.
More information on how to book will follow |
